Terms

Terms of this site

A short set of terms for the website you're reading and the house it describes. They're meant to be read, so we've tried to keep them human.

What these terms are for

These terms explain how you can use this website and what to expect when you come to Bair Street. They're not meant to catch anyone out. If something here surprises you, tell us, and if it's unfair, we'll change it.

By using the site, including the booking and enquiry forms, you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the forms. You're still welcome to ring the front desk and book the old-fashioned way, and we'll be glad to hear from you.

The terms

The terms, one at a time

What's covered

These terms cover the website of Waratah Terrace and your visit to the building on Bair Street. They do not cover other sites we link to, which have terms of their own. The forms on this site exist for one purpose only, which is to arrange a table or a seat in the building.

Rules of the visit

When you visit, please follow the House way published on this site and be kind to the staff and other guests. A guest who spoils the evening for others may be asked to leave, and will be welcome back another time once things have been sorted out between us.

Chips are worth nothing

Every game described here is played with plain chips that have no monetary value. They can't be bought, sold, swapped or cashed in. No entry fee is charged, nothing is bet, and no prize is given in cash, goods, vouchers or favours. A tournament winner gets their name on the board and a round of applause.

Nothing online

None of the games can be played online. This site offers no game, no app and no remote table, and the forms must not be used for anything else. If someone claims to be offering games in our name on another website or in a message, it isn't us, and we'd like to hear about it.

Links to other sites

This website links to a few outside places, including the map on the contact page, which comes from a third-party provider. We don't control those sites and can't promise what's on them or how they treat your information. A link is not an endorsement, and we may remove one at any time.

Australian law

These terms are governed by Australian law. If a dispute can't be settled by talking, it will be heard in the courts of Victoria. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer law, and nothing in them is meant to.

If you've got a complaint

Please tell us first. Write to the tables address in the footer or ask for Owen Byrne at the door, and he'll listen, find out what happened and reply personally, usually within a few working days. Most complaints end with a conversation and a fresh pot of tea.

Age limit

This website and the card room are for adults aged eighteen and over. By using the site, you confirm you meet that requirement. We ask for photo ID at the door, and anyone who can't show it won't be admitted to the card room, although they're still welcome in the dining room.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms from time to time, for example when we change how bookings work. The version on the website is always the current one, and we'll mention any big change at the front desk before it takes effect. Hours, menus and programs may change without notice too.
