Weekly program
Seven nights, six seasons
We're open Tuesday to Sunday, and the nights change with the weather and the farm calendar. Here's the year, a few questions, the rules for the week and a form for private evenings.
Across the year
How the nights change with the seasons
Autumn17:30 – 23:00
Pumpkin soup, apples and baked cheese arrive on the menu, and the Friday Hold'em tournament settles into a steady routine.
Winter17:30 – 23:00
Roasts, pies and puddings take over, with early suppers, long blackjack nights and the card room warm as toast.
Early spring17:30 – 23:00
Lamb, peas and green things return, the evenings stretch and the roulette wheel gets a little busier.
Late spring17:30 – 23:00
Berries, cream and cold plates, with tournaments that finish well after the light has gone.
Summer17:30 – 23:00
The doors stand open to the evening air, the card room is kept cool and the menu leans on fish and salads.
Holiday weeks17:30 – 23:00
Early family sittings from the first minute, a quiet card room and a children's pudding plate on every table.
Planning your night
Questions about the week
- Which night suits a first visit?
- Tuesday and Wednesday are the quiet ones, with lessons at the wheel and a gentler blackjack table. The dealers have more time, there's a seat for everyone and you can watch for a while before deciding.
- What happens on Fridays?
- Fridays are tournament nights, with a list of twenty and a final table under the lamp. The list fills early, so ring in the morning if you'd like a place. Spectators are welcome and the stools are rarely empty.
- Are you open on Mondays?
- No. Mondays are for the kitchen's big prep, the dealers' practice and the building's rest. We open on Tuesday with a clean room and a fresh batch of scones.
- Do the nights really change?
- The shape of the week stays the same, but the menu and the mood follow the seasons. In winter the roasts take over, in summer we open the doors, and in holiday weeks the children get their own pudding plate.
For every night
What stays the same all year
Doors open at half past five, Tuesday to Sunday, and the house closes at eleven.
The card room is for people aged eighteen and over, and we'll check ID at the door.
Dinner and card-room seats are booked separately, and tables are held for fifteen minutes.
Chips are plain, worth nothing and handed back at the end of the night.
Phones are silent at the tables, and calls are taken on the verandah.
No betting, no stakes and no prizes at any table, on any night.
Dealers explain the rules but never coach a hand.
Be kind to the staff and each other, and everything else takes care of itself.
Private evenings
